Editorial in today’s Seattle Times: Legislature’s Opportunity in Election-Year Session.

Among the issues needing immediate attention, the transportation package.  “Lawmakers must redouble efforts to make a long-term investment in the state’s bridges, roads and transit.” The editorial goes on, “The sorry state of roads is an acute problem in car-dependent areas both rural and urban; 416 bridges were graded as structurally deficient in 2021, including 46 on interstate highways.”

  Currently legislators are funding only about 40% of what is annually needed for repairs and maintenance.  Not only is there a healthy state budget for funding but Washington is in line for billions from the federal infrastructure bill.
